Bonilla a la Vista is a family business from Galicia, in north-west Spain, that has been frying potato chips since 1932. The name comes from founder Salvador Bonilla's years as a corporal in the Spanish Navy: when approaching a ship, he would announce himself with "Cabo Bonilla a la vista" ("Corporal Bonilla in sight"). After leaving the Navy, he and his wife opened a churrería in Ferrol, and in 1949 the family moved to A Coruña. By the 1950s their chips, fried through the night by Salvador and his son César, were a favourite of the city's bars. In 1988 César opened the family's chip factory in Arteixo, near A Coruña, where the chips are still made with just three ingredients: selected potatoes, olive oil and sea salt. Their iconic tin even made a cameo in the Oscar-winning film Parasite.
